The MotoGP circus began its first official test of the season at Sepang in Malaysia, and though the riders are returning from the winter break, the weather at Sepang is anything but frigid.
To celebrate the start of 2016 MotoGP action, AGV riders Andrea Iannone and Valentino Rossi debuted their special edition winter testing helmets, with designs that are sure to make people laugh.
Rossi’s design embraces the winter break, as the left side of the helmet features ice crystals on a blue background, while a friendly smiling snowman wearing a yellow Yamaha hat and scarf stretches down from the top of the helmet to the visor. Valentino’s number 46 is sketched in pale yellow on the back of the helmet. As always, the helmet graphics were designed by the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP rider together with Aldo Drudi.
Through February 3, meanwhile, Iannone’s AGV Pista GP features a caricature of the seagull he smacked (and subsequently killed) while leading the MotoGP race at Phillip Island last year. The top of the helmet is finished in Ducati red and features a white seagull with a dazed expression after hitting the Italian rider’s head. The sides and back of the helmet show Andrea’s nickname, “The Maniac”, and the Ducati brand name.
